A dental implant is an artificial “root” placed within the jawbone.
Dental implants are very versatile and can be used to help replace a single tooth, multiple teeth or even stabilize a denture. Implants are usually made of titanium which is extremely well tolerated by the body, and does not decay. Dental implants are the closest thing that you can get to a natural tooth!
In the case of a single tooth replacement, an implant is placed, then a post (abutment) is placed on the implant and finally a crown is placed over the abutment. With multiple missing teeth, different connectors can be used to build upon the implant to connect them to the final appliance, whether it be removable or non-removable.
Successful dental implants require planning on the part of both the dentist placing the implant and the dentist building upon that implant. We work as a team to make this happen and the end result is that dental implants are one of the most successful long term services dentists can provide.
Porcelain veneers are thin, tooth colored porcelain facings that bond to the enamel of your natural tooth.
They can be used to change the color, size, contour or shape of your tooth. Often used to close spaces between teeth, they have the strength and beauty that only porcelain can achieve and have greater resistance to wear and stain than even natural teeth have.
Bonding is a conservative way to improve the appearance of teeth.
During this procedure, a white filling is placed on your tooth to repair a slight chip or to change the color of a tooth. The material used bonds to your teeth and comes in a variety of shades to closely match the appearance of your natural teeth. Bonding is a less costly alternative to porcelain veneers, though bonded teeth are more subject to staining and discoloration when compared to porcelain veneers.
For years, you had no choice in the color of your fillings.
Now we can provide you with a tooth colored filling that has a very cosmetic appearance when compared to the older amalgam (metal) fillings. The composite fillings allow the dentist to remove less of the tooth structure and because they bond directly to the tooth, they provide a better seal, providing better protection against further decay.
Tooth whitening is a method used to lighten natural teeth.
A bleaching gel is placed over the teeth and over a period of time, the teeth become lighter in color. Compared to most other methods of lightening teeth, bleaching gives you the most “bang for your buck”. It does not affect the color of any man made material like veneers, crowns, fillings, etc. See us to find if you are a good candidate for bleaching!
